WIV4 has played a significant roll in broadcasting live events that played a pivotal roll in the development of the Turks and Caicos Islands. We broadcast defining moments that changed the course of this nation. We celebrated with the Turks and Caicos islands by covering the CARIFTA games hosted on the island of Providenciales. During the commission of inquiry in 2009, our staff followed this event closely. WIV Channel 4 filed daily reports recognising the significance of this event and how important it was for residents to be informed of any developments that took place during that period. We delivered full and accurate reports before, during, and after hurricane Ike. This initiative prompted residents and visitors alike to take precautions. This initiative saved many lives. WIV Channel 4 is a community channel that is committed to the people of these islands.
Another innovation by WIV Channel 4 is the WIV4 NEWS Online, which was launched in November 2007. An offshoot of TCI's first television network WIV4, this is the first daily online news forum for the Turks and Caicos Islands. The forum provides the same trusted daily news coverage that the Turks and Caicos public has come to expect in recent years from WIV Channel 4.
