Plans were announced today to hold a referendum in the TCI on the issue of Valued Added Tax. A new organization calling itself the People’s Referendum, led by local businessman O’Brien Forbes, says the group believes the people should be consulted in a constitutional manner, in line with proper democratic procedures. The people will be asked a range of questions in relation to VAT and although belongers on the voting list will be the principal targets, other people from the age of 16 upwards, including some still in school, will be entitled to have their say. The results of the Referendum will be presented to Governor Ric Todd.
